Theodore “Ted” Gepner, Jr, 92, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020 at his home in Russell.
Ted was born May 9, 1928 in Clay Center, Kansas, the son of Theodore, Sr. and Sara (Middleton) Gepner. He grew up and attended school in Clay Center.
Ted was united in marriage to Helen Kurtenbach in July of 1952. This union was blessed with two daughters, Jody and Wava. Later in life, he was united in marriage to Carol Newman in February of 2011.
Ted worked in the highway construction business for over 36 years as a heavy equipment operator. Ted enjoyed playing bingo, going to the lake and fishing his heart out. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially Jimmie Johnson and the Kansas City Chiefs. What he enjoyed the most was spending time in his recliner watching the old westerns on TV especially John Wayne. He was loved by everybody, he was the type that would give you a hand in need.
Ted is survived by his wife of nine years, Carol Gepner of Russell, Kansas; two son-in-laws, Allen Thompson of Beloit, Kansas and Rusty Hosier of Kirwin, Kansas; five granddaughters, Dusty Larson of Russell, Kansas, Christy Clapp (Gene) of Beloit, Kansas, Kye Boxum (Robert) of Salina, Kansas, Kelsy and Amy; grandson Kevin; eleven great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Helen; two daughters, Jody and Wava; two sisters, Wilma and Judy; and five brothers, Marvin, Ernest, Paul and Leonard.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at Kirwin Lake, Kirwin, Kansas, on Saturday, May 30, 2020. A Memorial has been established as the Ted Gepner Memorial Fund. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.
