Barbara Lee ( Whisler) Nimz, 95, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Monday, August 3, 2020 at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.
Barbara was born December 8, 1924 in Trego County, Kansas. The daughter of Dewey G., Sr. and Esther M. (Vincent) Whisler. She grew up in WaKeeney, Kansas and graduated from Trego Community High School in the Class of 1942.
Barbara was united in marriage to Fred Glen Nimz on February 21, 1960 in Abeline, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children; Timothy, Linda and David. They made their home in Healy, Kansas where Barbara was the Secretary of the Healy High School. She also was the City Librarian for many years. They then moved to Grainfield, Kansas living there from 1961 to 1971. In 2003, they moved to Russell. Fred preceded her in death on March 2, 2016. Barbara was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church of Russell. She also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star in Grainfield. She enjoyed reading, watching Kansas University Basketball games and doing cross word puzzles. The most important things in her life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Barbara’s surviving family include her daughter, Linda Bealby (Brad) of Woodland Park, Colorado; two sons, Timothy Nimz (Kathy) of Littleton, Colorado and David Nimz (Nancy) of Dallas, Texas; sister, Carol Perrin of Tampa, Florida; six grandchildren, Ashley, Drew, Hannah, Mark, Brandon and Brittany; and 19 great grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred Glen Nimz and two brothers, Dewey Whisler, Jr. and Francis Whisler.
A private family Graveside Service will be held at the Russell City Cemetery in Russell. Viewing will be held from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Friday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. A Memorial has been established with Alzheimer’s Association. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
