Herta (Bauer) Ehrlich, 88, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Russell Regional Hospital.
Herta was born on April 28, 1932, in Voigtsgrun, Czechoslovakia, which was a German speaking community in Sudetenland. Sudetenland is the historical German name for the northern, southern and western areas of former Czechoslovakia to Hermine (Stutzig) and Joseph Bauer. After WW2, when Herta was 15 years old, the Czechs ran the German community out of Czechoslovakia taking all their belongings from them. Herta’s family settled in the Bavarian Alps town of Blaichach Alg. Herta loved playing her Accordion and was a wonderful seamstress. Herta met and fell in love with Wilbur Ehrlich and they married on December 11, 1953 and out of this union they had Betty and Willy.
In 1953, they moved to Russell from Germany. Over the years Herta worked for Virtue, J.M. McDonalds Clothing Store, and Star Cleaners, baby sat for family and friends, sewing and ironing for people and help Wilbur with farming. Herta spent lots of hours working in her flower beds.
Herta is survived by one daughter, Betty Funk (Allen) of Russell, Kansas; son, Willy Ehrlich of Hays, Kansas; grandchildren, Cory Funk (Jennifer) of Russell, Kansas, Dustin Funk (Samantha) of Orange Park, Florida, Aubrey Fisher (R.J.) of Hays, Kansas, Amanda Long (Bob) of Hays, Kansas and Alisha Edinborough (Andy) of Maize, Kansas; nine great Grandchildren, Gavin Manning of Hays, Kansas, Alana Leiker of Maize, Kansas, Andrew Edinborough of Maize, Kansas, Madicyn Urban of Hays, Kansas, Ashlyn Edinborough of Maize, Kansas and Aleya Edinborough of Maize, Kansas, Kyleigh Funk of Russell, Kansas, Kasen Fisher of Hays, Kansas, and Gracie Long of Hays, Kansas; sister, Erni Brandl of Blaichach, Germany; three nephews, Thomas Brandl, Klause Brandl and Florian Brandl and their families of Blaichach, Germany; and Aunt Rita Galyardt of Russell, Kansas.
Herta was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilbur, and brother-in-law Sepp Brandl.
A private family Service and burial in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery will take place on Friday, November 20, 2020. Public visitation will be held Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Memorials have been established with St. John Lutheran Church or Wheatland Nursing Center Activities.
