Kathryn Marie “Kathy” Scott, 73, of Luray, Kansas, died on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
Kathy was born on September 07,1948, in Anamosa, Iowa, the daughter of Robert E. and Pauline C. (Heick) Wensorra. As a young girl she grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and later moved to Iowa City, Iowa and graduated from Iowa City High School in the class of 1966. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to LeRoy Paul Scott on February 09, 1971, in Iowa City, Iowa. From this union, they were blessed with two daughters Julie and Shaunna. Kathy and LeRoy lived in Iowa for many years but eventually settled in Hill City, Kansas, where Kathy owned and operated Kathy’s Daycare. While operating her daycare, many parents commented on how caring and loving she was to the kids in her care, and she cared for them as if they were her own children. Eventually in 2012, Kathy and LeRoy moved to Luray, Kansas, and made Luray their permanent home. A couple of years later, LeRoy’s health declined and he preceded Kathy in death on August 15, 2014. Kathy was a member of the Luray United Methodist Church and the Amherst F.C.E.. She loved tending to her flower garden and rose bushes and babying her dog Bella. Most of all she enjoyed visiting and spending time with her daughters, friends, family and especially enjoyed loving and hugging her grandsons.
Surviving family include her daughters Julie Peterson and husband Terry of Lenora, Kansas and Shaunna Scott of Luray, Kansas; grandsons Kade Peterson and wife Lillie of Ellis, Kansas and Colton Peterson of Lenora, Kansas and many family and friends left to mourn her passing.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters Nancy Wright, Joan Pallett and Shirley Ackerman.
A memorial service to celebrate Kathy’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at the Luray United Methodist Church in Luray, Kansas. Cremation has been selected by the family and there will be no graveside service. Family will greet guests the day of the service at the church from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. service time. Memorials may be given to the Luray United Methodist Church and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
