Donita Mae Seirer, 90, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, January 08, 2022, at the Main Street Manor in Russell.
Donita was born on June 19, 1931, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of Donald and Esther (Peterson) Sellens. She grew up in Russell, Kansas, and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1949. After high school she graduated with her teaching degree from the University of Northern Colorado. She was united in marriage to Floyd Ray Johnson on July 4, 1955. He preceded her in death in 1966. Donita found love a second time and was united in marriage to Jerry Neal Seirer on March 29, 1975, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She worked as an elementary school teacher for 37 years. Donita taught in Holyrood, Kansas and in Russell, Kansas. In the Russell area she taught at Lincoln school and at Simpson school. She enjoyed spending time with her animals which included dogs, cats and parrots she owned over the years. She also enjoyed camping, water skiing, painting and traveling to Colorado and Arizona. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends.
Surviving family include her husband Jerry of the home in Russell, son Donald Johnson of Russell, Kansas, daughter Alica Dreiling (Les) of Lawrence, Kansas, son Dennis Johnson (Christine) of Munjor, Kansas, step daughter Taunya Kopke (Jerry) of Fayetteville, Arkansas, step son Randy Johnson (Marsha) Springdale, Arkansas, step daughter Terry Becker (Steve) of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, step daughter Teresa Eldredge (Ladd) of Salt Lake City, Utah, step son Jeffery Seirer (Stephanie) of Andover, Kansas and step daughter Tracy Weinhold (Dan) of Russell, Kansas; sister Billie Jo Breit of Pfeifer, Kansas and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert Sellens.
A celebration of Donita’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, January 14, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery in Russell, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at the mortuary with family present to greet guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Thursday evening. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to the Humane Society of the High Plains and sent in care of the mortuary.Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
