Edward C. Herman

Edward Carlyle Herman, 86, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at the Main Street Manor in Russell.

Edward was born on March 29, 1935 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Boyd and Elsie Merle (Bennett) Herman.  His family moved to Sylvan Grove, Kansas, where he grew up as a young boy and graduated from Sylvan Grove High School in the class of 1953.  After high school, he proudly served his country by joining the United States Marines.  After completing his military service, he came back home and met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Flossie Ellen Hart on January 29, 1959, in Solomon, Kansas.  They moved to and lived in Russell, Kansas from 1963 to 1987.  They moved back to Russell in 2000 and made it their permanent home.  He worked with the Kansas Department of Transportation as an engineer from 1963 to 1992.  He was a reserve Russell Police Officer and was a member of the Topeka American Legion Post #400.  He taught Kids Gun Safety Classes that he was very active in and enjoyed teaching gun safety to children.  He enjoyed running, hunting, camping, hiking, being outdoors and watching hunting and fishing shows on television.  Most of all he enjoyed spending quality time with his family.

Surviving family include his wife Ellen of the home and daughter Cindy Ramsey and husband Kenny of Hoisington, Kansas and his grandson Brian Ramsey and great grandson Shay Ramsey

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister Hazel Lee Herman. A memorial celebration of Ed’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russel, Kansas.  Cremation has been selected by the family and they will greet guests before and after the service.  Military Honors will be presented by the Russell V.F.W. Post 6240 at the mortuary.  A private burial of the ashes will take place after the service. Memorials may be given to the Russell High School Trap Shooting Team and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
