Paul Clarence Popp, 96, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the Azria Health Woodhaven in Great Bend, Kansas.
Paul was born October 31, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was one of five sons born to Peter and Paulina (Miller) Popp. He grew up on the family farm in northern Barton County.
Paul served his country in the U.S. Army from November, 1954 to November, 1956 at the end of the Korean War. After his tour, he returned to the family farm.
Paul was united in marriage to Fara Mae Brack on June 15, 1958 in Otis, Kansas. This union was blessed with a son, Allan. They made their home in Russell. Fara preceded him in death on May 17, 2015.
Paul worked for the City of Russell in the Power Plant for many years. He was the Operator and later the Mechanic of the plant. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering in his garage and going to the farm with Allan.
Paul’s surviving family include his son, Allan Popp and companion Colette Gnad of Hays, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; wife Fara; four brothers, Otto Popp, Theodor Popp, Lester Popp and Richard Popp.
Celebration of Paul’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 30, 2023 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell. A private burial will take place later. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A Memorial has been established with Russell Regional Hospital. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
