Barbara J. (Gregwire) Scheck, 71, of Russell, Kansas passed away Saturday evening, June 18, 2022 at her home.
Barbara was born October 1, 1950 in Russell, the daughter of Gordon and Marilyn (Flohr) Gregwire. She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 68. She then attended Emporia State University for a year and then transferred to Ft. Hays State University where she obtained a Degree in Nursing.
Barbara was united in marriage to Timothy F. Scheck on August 7, 1971. This union was blessed with two daughters, Mindie and Kristie. They made their home in Hays from 1971 to 1974 when they returned to Russell.
Barbara was a Registered Nurse for the Russell Hospital for over 20 years working mainly in the surgical department. Then from 1994 to 1998 she worked with the Russell Home Health. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was an active member of the Russell Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed doing puzzles like crosswords and cryptograms, doing cross stitching, and baking and cooking for family and friends. What would bring a sparkle to her eye was her grandchildren, she loved attending their activities and having them over to the house. She also had a gift of knowing everyone’s birthday and made special effort to call them on their special day.
Barbara’s surviving family include her husband of 50 years, Tim of the home; daughters, Mindie Ulrich (Jeremy) of Russell, Kansas and Kristie Homeier (Brent) of Russell, Kansas; brother, Richard Gregwire (Janet) of McPherson, Kansas; sister, Roberta Jaye (Denny) of Lindsborg, Kansas; four grandchildren, Briar Ulrich, Gunnar Ulrich, Brock Homeier and Bryce Homeier; and treasured nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 25, 2022 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church with burial of ashes following at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Friday, June 24, 2022 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, Friday, at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Russell Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
