Dean L. Stricker, 87, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the Azria Health Woodhaven in Great Bend, Kansas.
Dean was born July 4, 1936 in Russell County, Kansas. The son of Gottfried and Mollie (Niedenthal) Stricker. He grew up south of Russell in the Milberger area. He graduated from Russell High School and attended two years at Ft. Hays State University.
Dean served his country in the US Army. He was stationed at Ft Ord, Monterey Bay, California. After his tour he returned to the Russell area and was still involved with the Army Reserves for four years.
Dean was a Farmer and Stockman most of his life. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church (Bender Hill) serving on the Council and in the Choir. Later he became a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. He enjoyed baseball, hunting, fishing, gardening, naming his farm dogs Bingo and socializing with friends and family.
Dean’s surviving family include his daughter, Susan Stricker and husband Brook Strecker of Lago Vista, Texas; son, Jim Stricker and wife Sharon of Shawnee, Kansas; brothers, Elmer Stricker of Cedar Hill, Texas, Bob Stricker of Great Bend, Kansas and Tom Stricker of Hill City, Kansas; sisters, Elsena Bender of Great Bend, Kansas, Mary Jane Doonan of Scottsdale, Arizona and Kathryn Booth of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, James Stricker, Caroline Stricker and Camille Stricker.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harvey Stricker, Gottfried Jr. (Fritz) Stricker, Glen Stricker and an infant brother, Henry Hubert Stricker; and sisters, Helen Michaelis, Rozella VanReenan and Lynetta Springer.
Celebration of Dean’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. Burial will follow at the Trinity Bender Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Memorial has been established with the Trinity Bender Hill Cemetery Fund. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of the arrangements.
