Floyd Dennis “Denny” Cornwell, 64, of Luray, Kansas, died on Friday, February 17, 2023, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
Denny was born on December 06, 1958, in Osborne, Kansas, the son of Keith B. and Eleanor R. (Walls) Cornwell. He grew up in rural Luray, Kansas on the family farm and graduated from Lucas-Luray High School in the class of 1978. He lived in the Luray area all his life and worked as a farm laborer on a local farm and also worked for many years at Heartland Hay. He was a longtime member of the Luray United Methodist Church. He was an active member in the Russell Muzzle Loaders and Luray Fire Department. He loved to hunt, trap, fish, cut firewood and enjoyed cutting and carving limestone stone posts. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed hanging out with his many nieces and nephews.
Surviving family include his sister Linda Dolton and husband Joe of Luray, Kansas; nieces Amy Leiker and husband Marc and Sara Eckinger and husband Brett and nephew Benjamin Dolton and wife Rebecca. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service to celebrate Floyd’s life will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at the Osborne City Cemetery in Osborne, Kansas. There will be no public viewing before the service. Immediately following the graveside service, the family would like to invite family and friends in the community to a luncheon at the Luray United Methodist Church on Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.. The family will enjoy food and fellowship and share stories with those who attend. Memorials may be given to the Luray Fire Department and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
