James William Treadway, 82, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at his home in Russell, Kansas.
James was born on January 02, 1941, in Fayetteville, West Virginia, the son of James and Edith (Thomas) Treadway. He grew up and attended schools in Fayetteville, West Virginia. In 1958 at age 17 he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country for 20 years. He fought in the Vietnam war for 12 months and was awarded many military honors including the Purple Heart. He found true love later in life, for the past 15 years he was with Denise; and they were married April,7 2023, in Russell, Kansas. After serving his country he learned the art of being a locksmith and worked for a locksmith company in Spearfish, South Dakota for many years. He also worked for a casino in Deadwood, South Dakota for 15 years as a casino supervisor. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry, reading mysteries and playing board and card games. He really enjoyed drawing and painting and was an amazing artist. He was a devoted grandpa and was so proud of all his grandchildren. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and enjoyed being with and taking care of his wife Denise with whom he adored.
Surviving family include his wife Denise of the home, daughters Lisa Treadway of Sydney, Montana, Diana Treadway of Spearfish, South Dakota and Shaunna Spurlock and husband Aaron of Sweet Home, Oregon; step children Taylor Daniel of Russell, Kansas and step daughter Vonnie Norris and companion Wes Baker of Redding, California; half-brother Michael Jones of Dayton, Ohio and ex-wife Eileen Treadway of Ekalaka, Montana; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bobby Cavandash.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at a later date at the WaKeeney Veterans’ Cemetery in WaKeeney, Kansas. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
