Janice K. Miska

Janice Kay (Miller) Miska, 83, of Hoisington, Kansas, and formerly of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, October 18, 2024 at Via Christa St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

Janice was born September 4, 1941 in Ellsworth, Kansas.  She was the daughter of Steven and Ima (Grise) Miller.  She grew up in Kanopolis, Kansas, and graduated from the Kanopolis High School as the Valedictorian in the Class of 1959.  She then attended Barton County Community College and graduated with an Associates Degree in Nursing in the first ever Nursing graduating class.

Janice was united in marriage to Arthur Miska in October, 1959.  This union was blessed with four daughters; Deb, Lori, Mary Jo and Cathy.  They made their home in rural Ellsworth.

Janice was a Registered Nurse for Ellsworth County Hospital before moving to Russell in 1974, where she began working for the Russell Regional Hospital.  In her long career as a nurse, she touched many lives.  She served as an acute care nurse, ER nurse, Surgery Director, County Health Nurse for Russell County, Director of Nursing.  She was a member of the St. John Catholic Church in Hoisington.  In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, baking, Crocheting, baby sitting her grandchildren and spending time with her family and friends.

Janice’s surviving family include her four daughters; Deb Strobel (John) of Russell, Kansas, Lori Morgan (Jesse) of Russell, Kansas, Mary Jo Schoech (Michael) of Russell, Kansas, and Cathy Boxberger (Randy) of Russell, Kansas; three brothers, Johnnie Miller (April) of Kanopolis, Kansas, Jim Miller (Kathy) of Tyler, Texas, and Gary Miller (Stella) of Kanopolis, Kansas; sister, Joan Bunch of Kanopolis, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren on the way.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 26, 2024 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell.  Burial will follow at 1:00 PM, Saturday at the Kanopolis Cemetery in Kanopolis.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Friday, October 25, 2024, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.  In Lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Russell Regional Hospital Auxiliary.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
