Janice Rae (Stewart) Marshall, 82, of Russell, Kansas passed away on Thursday, Feb. 25th, 2021 at the Russell Regional Hospital, Russell, KS.
Janice was born on May 1, 1938 in Hays, KS to Margaret (Boxberger) and Louis Kenneth Stewart. Janice lived her entire life in Russell and graduated from Russell High School with the class of 1956.
She married the love of her life, Malcolm Marshall on September 7, 1958 and they recently celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary. Through this marriage, they were blessed with three children; LaRissa Morse, Aaron Marshall and Eric Marshall.
Janice held many accounting positions in the Russell area for years including Bennett & Roberts, Red Shaw Oil, Rudy Herman Oil Operations and Elmer Fox & Company. On May 1, 1971, Janice and Malcolm purchased the Lewis Jewelry Store from Harold and Juanita Lewis at 710 Main St and renamed it Marshall’s Jewelry & Gifts. A few years later, they moved the store to 708 Main St. where they incorporated a fresh and silk flower shop in the back; hence Marshall’s Flowers. Janice graduated from Floral Design School in Lawrence, Kansas and was able to use her skills in developing and designing the flower shop. This business was built and continued for nearly 30 years before she retired in May 1999.
Janice enjoyed bowling, playing bridge as she spearheaded Bridge-O-Rama for her sorority, The Delta Kappa Gamma of Beta Sigma Phi, traveling to see her children and grandchildren; always stopping off at the Casinos along the way! You could always find her at the draw poker machines! She was a faithful servant of God and member of St. John Lutheran Church, Russell, Kansas; serving the parish as a lecturer, greeter and organist for over 40 years.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Malcolm of the home; daughter LaRissa Morse of Shawnee, Kansas; sons, Aaron Marshall (Paula)of Omaha, Nebraska and Eric Marshall (Linda)of Kearney, Missouri. She has one sister, Linda Sue Motzner (Bill) of Lexington, Nebraska. She has six grandchildren, Kayla Owens (Blake) and Chloe Morse, Matthew and Caroline Marshall and Miranda and Marleigh Marshall along with many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Janice was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Gary Morse.
Celebration of Janice’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 1, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church, 5th and Main St. in Russell, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1pm-8pm, Sunday, February, 28, 2021 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6-7pm. Memorials have been established with the Russell Regional Hospital or St. John Lutheran Church.
