John M. Strobel, 69, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.
John was born December 19, 1954 in St. John, Kansas. One of three sons and a daughter to Jerome C. and Norma Lee (Schmidt) Strobel. He grew up in Radium, Kansas until the age of eight when he moved to Winfield, Kansas. Then in 1985 moved to Russell for six years before moving to Great Bend.
John has been handicapped his whole life, but he loved listening to music, being around cats and dogs and being outside. He had a strong attraction for shiny things and tasty foods. He liked backrubs and taking long country cruised with his brother.
John’s surviving family include his two brothers, Joe Strobel of Great Bend, Kansas and Jeff Strobel of Paris, Arkansas.
John was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carla Strobel. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be held at 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell. A private burial of ashes will follow at a later date. Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas, and is in charge of the arrangements.
