John Michael Anthony Proffitt, 58, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Salina Regional Hospital in Salina, Kansas.
John was born on September 30, 1964 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of John Proffitt and Beverly Miles. John’s family moved when he was very young and grew up in Phoenix, Arizona where he spent most of his life. He worked as a security guard and a park ranger while in Phoenix Arizona. He moved to Russell in 2019 due to health reasons and to be closer to family who could help take care of him. He enjoyed Barbecuing and being surrounded by family and attending family events. He enjoyed collecting eagle statues and trinkets along with farm red trucks.
Surviving family include two brothers Leonard Proffitt and wife Susie in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and David Miles and wife Jennifer of Boise, Idaho; sisters Anita Lee of Russell, Kansas, Flo Turner of Phoenix, Arizona, Debra Landy and husband Kenneth of Pittsburg, Kansas, Candy Serratt and husband Mike of Phoenix Arizona, Bernie Ojeda and husband Sal of Phoenix Arizona, Dawn Bradeen and husband Jeff of Lee, Maine, Tearsha Twyman and husband Tracy of Phoenix, Arizona and Mimi Gallagher and husband Dennis, Jr. of Russell, Kansas. He also had many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has been selected by the family and a private family service will be held at a later date. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the cremation arrangements.
