
Kathleen Rose (Pasek) Modlin, 78, of Bunker Hill, Kansas, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
Kathleen was born January 20, 1947, in Russell, Kansas. She was one of twelve children born to Leo A. and Katherine (Bohnen) Pasek. She grew up in the Russell, Bunker Hill and Dorrance areas. She graduated from the Dorrance High School in the Class of 1965.
Kathleen was united in marriage to Lloyd Modlin on May 27, 1988 in Ellsworth, Kansas. They made their home in Bunker Hill. Lloyd preceded her in death in 2004.
Kathleen was a Cook and Baker. She worked as a cook for the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, the Bear House in Bunker Hill and the nursing home in Ellsworth. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Ladies Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Dorrance American Legion Post # 337 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers and cooking and baking for family and friends. She was the heart of the family. She was always the first to celebrate the joys of family and friends, no matter the distance or occasion. She was everyone’s biggest fan. Kathleen is often described by the ones who loved her most as “the favorite”, which is how she will be remembered.
Kathleen’s surviving family include her step-daughter, Tiffany Macey of Salina, Kansas; step-son, J.R. Modlin of Bunker Hill, Kansas; brothers, Richard Pasek of Russell, Kansas, Michael Pasek (Jamie) of Russell, Kansas and David Pasek (Cathy) of Russell, Kansas; sisters, Cindy Bricker of Lucas, Kansas, Judy Soukup of Wilson, Kansas, Sharolyn Robinson (Creighton) of Nevada, and Carol Steinle of Dorrance, Kansas; 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; brother, Donnie Pasek; sisters, Marilyn Pasek, Betty Jean Pasek and Mary Jane Pasek; two nieces and two nephews. Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 14, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Dorrance. Burial of Ashes will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery of Dorrance. Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, at the mortuary. A Memorial has been established with the Dorrance American Legion Post #337 Ladies Auxiliary. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
