Lloyd Leroy Snook, 72, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020 at his residence.
Leroy was born on Friday, February 13, 1948, in Russell, Kansas, the son of Oscar M. and Beulah (Burke) Snook. He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1966. He then attended a tech school.
Leroy served his country in the U.S. Navy performing his boot camp in San Diego, California in 1967. He served on the attack aircraft carrier USS Constellation CVA-64 as an electrician from 1968 to 1971. He had 3 combat cruises in Vietnam during that time period.
Leroy was a lineman for the Russell Telephone Company for many years before his health required him to have a heart transplant surgery. His transplant surgery was on April 12, 2000, which he always considered his second birthday and a second lease on life. He was a member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 and the American Legion Post #99 and former commander from 1996 to 1997. He enjoyed playing pool, visiting with friends and taking care of his pets.
Surviving family include his brothers, Dwane Snook (Wendy) of Montana, Chester Carter, Jr. of Coos Bay, Oregon and Daniel Snook (Dana) of Oregon; sister, Deborah Snook (Steve) of Russell, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dennis Snook. A Memorial Service will take place at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
