Marvin Bryan Miller, 89, of Claflin, Kansas and former Russell, Kansas, resident, died on Thursday, March 02, 2023, at his home in Claflin surrounded by his family.
Marvin was born on June 17, 1933 in Paradise, Kansas, the son of Vernon and Fay (Stielow) Miller. He grew up in the Paradise, Kansas, area on the family farm and attended local schools. He met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Shirley Jean Schumaker on October 09, 1954, in Russell, Kansas. From this union Marvin and Shirley were blessed with four children Linda, Debra, Marlene and Bryan. He served his country by enlisting in the Army National Guard. He worked most all his life in the oil and gas industry as an oilfield pumper and finished his career working for Jayhawk Well Service. He also was owner and operator of Marv’s Gutter Service. He was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell. He was also a longtime member of the National Rifle Association, American Legion Post #99 and the Elks Lodge of Russell. He enjoyed farming, tinkering, fixing things, fishing, hunting, carpentry and was an avid bird watcher.
Surviving family include his daughters Linda Michaelis and husband Dan of Claflin, Kansas, Debra Miller of Russell, Kansas, Marlene Harris and husband John of Raymore, Missouri and son Bryan Miller of Russell, Kansas and 5 grandchildren Fay Woods, Reese Eulert, Angela Meyer, Marty Michaelis and Kelly Bachar; 11 great grandchildren Brooke, Bailee and Brent Bachar, Owen & Even Michaelis, Elsie, Scarlet, Ada and Hugh Woods and Eddie and Veda Meyer and a brother Raymond Miller of Hutchinson, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley on December 23, 2020, 3 brothers Dean, Frankie and Wayne and , 2 sisters Helen Wrightsman and Vernita Spreier.
A catholic graveside service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, March 10, 2023, at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Russell, Kansas with Father Mike Elan officiating. Cremation has been selected by the family. The service will be held for both Marvin and his wife Shirley and burial of the ashes will follow the graveside service. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the funeral services.
