Nancy L. Humes Donaldson

Nancy Lynn Humes Donaldson, 82, of Austin, TX and formerly of Russell, KS, died on July 5, 2024 in Cedar Park, TX.

Nancy was born on August 30, 1941, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Hays, KS, the middle child born to Mary Leah (Stuart) and Donald Clayton Humes. Nancy was baptized at the Bunker Hill Methodist Church on December 7, 1941, and was received into the Catholic Church on November 21,1999 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Austin, TX. Nancy grew up in Russell, KS. After graduation from Russell High School, Class of 1959, she attended Ft. Hays State University in Hays. She was very proud of her youthful days spent on the campaign trail with Kansas Senator Bob Dole as a member of the Dolls for Dole. Nancy was an accomplished pianist, organist, and vocalist. She went on to teach piano and voice to many children, including her own grandsons. Nancy spent time working at KTBC TV in Austin, TX, Smoky Hills PBS in Bunker Hill, KS, St. Mary, Help of Christians Catholic Church in Gorham, KS, and was retired from IBM Corp. She loved a good cup of coffee, reading, especially books about philosophy and theology, travel, spending time with her family, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. Nancy is survived by sons, Mark (Erin) Bennett of Burnet, TX and Craig (Colleen) Bennett of Bertram, TX; grandchildren, Craig Jr., William, Joseph, Mark, Mathew, and Kelley; great-grandson Mathew Alan (Aerial); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and long-time companion Michael Giauque. She was preceded in death by parents, Mary and Don Humes; brother, Stuart Blaine Humes; sister, Elaine Kay “Lanie” Humes Speck; and son, Kurt Edmund Johnson II.

A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held in Austin, Texas.  Cremation has been selected by the family.  A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Bunker Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill, KS. Memorials in Nancy’s honor may be made to the Bunker Hill Museum and sent to the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the graveside service arrangements.
