Mikala Lynn Peterson, 24, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at her home in Russell. Mikala was born on April 15, 1999, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of David Muilenburg and Samantha Phillips and was raised by her guardian/mom Robyn Congrove.  She grew up and spent most of her life living in Russell and attending Russell Public Schools.  She was blessed with her daughter Kenlee Peterson and enjoyed being a mother and homemaker.  She enjoyed caring for her daughter Kenlee, fishing, spending time at the lake country cruising and most of all she enjoyed spending time with

Michael Alan “Mike” Hopper, 63, of Russell, Kansas passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023 at his home. Mike was born February 24, 1960, in Hays, Kansas. The son of James David, II and Dorothy M. (Teppe) Hopper. He grew up in Russell and was a 1978 graduate of Russell High School. He then attended Kansas State University and Fort Hays State University. Mike was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Baird on July 6, 1985 in Hays, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children; Cameron and Brianne. They made their home in Russell. Nicholas “Nick” Henry Von Lintel, 72, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas. Nick was born on April 16, 1951, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Lawrence and Theresa Marie (Rohleder) Von Lintel.  He grew up in the Quinter area and graduated from Quinter High School in 1969.  He met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Mary Gayle Meier, on August 23, 1969, in St. Peter, Kansas.  From this union they were blessed with 2 daughters Tana and Trina.  They moved to Russell, Kansas in 2006, where

Floyd Charles Tuzicka, 85, of Russell, Kansas, and formerly of Hoisington and Olmitz, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, July 24, 2023 at the Russell Regional Hospital. Floyd was born April 25, 1938 in rural Olmitz.  He was the son of Charles George and Barbara Janice (Dome) Tuzicka.  He grew up in Hoisington and attended Hoisington schools. Floyd served his country in the U.S. Army.  He was stationed in Beirut and Lebanon.  After his tour was done, he returned to the Olmitz area. Floyd was united in marriage to Clara Constance “Connie” Hewitt on November 17, 1963 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. 

Betty Ann (Balloun) Boxberger, 90, of Russell, Kansas, passed peacefully Sunday, July 23, 2023 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas, with her family by her side. Betty was born on March 1, 1933, in Russell.  She was the daughter of Rudolph George and Mabelle (Britt) Balloun.  She spent the first year of her life in Gorham, Kansas.  Thereafter, her family moved to Russell.  Betty was baptized in Trinity United Methodist Church.  She grew up and attended schools in Russell; graduating from Russell High School in 1951.  Betty then attended and graduated from Central Business College in Denver, Colorado. 

Darlene Francis Woelk, 90, went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 21, 2023, at The Pratt Health and Rehab in Pratt, Kansas. Darlene was born on May 12, 1933, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Francis Newton and Eva Gretchen (Hogue) Davis.  She was raised by her mother and would recall her adventures in her mom’s restaurant growing up in Beloit, Kansas.  She graduated from Beloit High School and began working the summer of 1951, for Woelk Implement in Russell, Kansas.  She met, the love of her life and was united in marriage to Donald F. Woelk

Helen Irene Zimmerman, age 102, passed away on Thursday, July 20,2023, in Lakewood, Colorado, She was born in Russell, Kansas May 4,1921 to Adam Fose and Kathrine Schneider.  She worked as clerk and bookkeeper for several businesses in Russell and was Worthy Matron of Eastern Star. Helen married Dean Zimmerman June 6, 1939. They were married for 68 years. Dean and Helen ran the Sky-Vu Drive In theater in Russell for 32 years. She was preceded in death by husband, Dean, daughter, Gwen Writer and son, Fred Zimmerman. Helen is survived by daughter, Mitzi (Leo) Stambaugh of Denver, four grandchildren

Roy Don Wright, 81, of Luray, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas. Don was born August 1, 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri. The son of Henry and Edith (Pasmore) Wright.  He grew up in Kansas City until the age of five when his family moved to Shenandoah, Iowa. After five years they returned to the Kansas City area. Dean L. Stricker, 87, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the Azria Health Woodhaven in Great Bend, Kansas. Dean was born July 4, 1936 in Russell County, Kansas.  The son of Gottfried and Mollie (Niedenthal) Stricker.  He grew up south of Russell in the Milberger area.  He graduated from Russell High School and attended two years at Ft. Hays State University. Dean served his country in the US Army.  He was stationed at Ft Ord, Monterey Bay, California.  After his tour he returned to the Russell area and was still involved with the Army Reserves for

Robert Allen Grizzle, 65, of Eudora, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas. Robert was born November 2, 1957, in Enid, Oklahoma.  He was the son of Leon and Ernestine (Butler) Grizzle.  The Grizzle family moved to Russell, Kansas when Robert was young.  He grew up and attended schools in Russell. Robert was united in marriage to Dorothy Sauders on March 5, 1994, in Clearview City, Kansas. Robert was blessed with five children: Kevin, Carrie, Jamie, Rachel and Alan. Robert was an independent Drywaller.  He worked in construction most of his life.
