Leonard Brown was born June 23, 1943 to Donald and Evelyn Brown on the family farm southwest of Lucas. Leonard attended District 44 Elementary School – a one-room school southwest of Lucas, he graduated from Lucas High School, then attended Fort Hays State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ag-Business. Vernon Delano Radke, 90, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell. Vernon was born July 9, 1933 on the family farm near Milberger, Kansas.  He was the son of Tobias and Amelia (Bitter) Radke.  He grew up in the Milberger area and attended schools in Milberger and Russell.  He graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 51. Robert Charley “Basswood Bob” Oliva (62) was born on September 27, 1960 in Plainville, Kansas, to Ruth Lee (Price) and Charley Robert Oliva. Tragically, Bob lost his life in an automobile accident near his home in Ely, Minnesota, on August 24, 2023.  Raised in Russell, Kansas, Bob was no stranger to adventures with his siblings. Eileen was born February 14, 1943 in Junction City, Kansas.  The daughter of Lawrence M. and Beatrice (Deines) Boatright.  Lawrence worked in the oil fields in central Kansas so they moved around during her childhood.  She graduated from Russell High School in the Class of ’61. Eugene Donald “Gene” Karst, 88, of Russell, Kansas, passed away, Friday, August 18, 2023 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell. Dean Henry Boxberger, 92, of Russell, Kansas passed away on Wednesday August 16th 2023 at Main Street Manor in Russell.  Dean passed peacefully with family by his side, 24 days after the passing of his wife of 69 years, Betty. Michael Alan “Mike” Hopper, 63, of Russell, Kansas passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023 at his home. Mike was born February 24, 1960, in Hays, Kansas. The son of James David, II and Dorothy M. (Teppe) Hopper. He grew up in Russell and was a 1978 graduate of Russell High School. He then attended Kansas State University and Fort Hays State University. Nicholas “Nick” Henry Von Lintel, 72, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas. Floyd Charles Tuzicka, 85, of Russell, Kansas, and formerly of Hoisington and Olmitz, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, July 24, 2023 at the Russell Regional Hospital. Floyd was born April 25, 1938 in rural Olmitz.  He was the son of Charles George and Barbara Janice (Dome) Tuzicka.  He grew up in Hoisington and attended Hoisington schools. Floyd served his country in the U.S. Army.  He was stationed in Beirut and Lebanon.  After his tour was done, he returned to the Olmitz area. Floyd was united in marriage to Clara Constance “Connie” Hewitt on November 17, 1963 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas.
