Martin Lloyd Schneider, 64, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, February 07, 2023, at the Russell Regional Hospital emergency room. Marvel was born March 28, 1935 on the family homestead near Covert, Kansas, the only daughter of Albert Lyle and Helen Lorene (Orr) Mitchell. She lived her early years on the family farm with her parents and older brother, Doyle and younger brother, Gerald. Marvel enjoyed her life on the farm. Charlotte Edith Merritt, 83, of Russell, Kansas and longtime resident of Towanda, Kansas, died on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at the Wheatland Nursing Home in Russell, Kansas. Charlotte was born on February 14, 1939, in Cherryvale, Kansas, the daughter of Ola David and Edith C. Belva Virginia Robertson, 98, of Russell, Kansas passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Homestead Assisted Living in Russell. Virginia was born January 20, 1925 to Lee and Opal (Armstrong) Buck on the family farm in Smith County, Kansas.  She attended high school at Smith Center, Kansas and Central College in McPherson Kansas, where she received her degree in 1942.  She continued her education at Fort Hays State College majoring in Elementary Education.  Virginia’s teaching career began in a one room school in Smith County. Paul Clarence Popp, 96, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the Azria Health Woodhaven in Great Bend, Kansas. Paul was born October 31, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri.  He was one of five sons born to Peter and Paulina (Miller) Popp.  He grew up on the family farm in northern Barton County.  Paul served his country in the U.S. Army from November, 1954 to November, 1956 at the end of the Korean War.  After his tour, he returned to the family farm. Mary Ann Wolan, 67, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, January 18,2023 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell. Mary Ann was born May 15,1955 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of Walter Joseph and Frances Florence (Pakula) Wolan. She grew up in Calumet Park, Illinois and graduated from Mother of Sorrows high school in Blue Island Illinois.  She then attended Fox College/Concordia University Secretarial School.  Mary Ann was a Secretary for International Harvester and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics(NIAI). Janet Dee Flickinger, 81, of Salina, Kansas, died on Monday, January 16, 2023, at the Kenwood View Health and Rehabilitation Center in Salina, Kansas. Janet was born on June 05, 1941, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Georg Emanuel and Irene (Meier) Laubhan.  She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1959.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Jon M. Flickinger on August 08, 1960 in Hays, Kansas.  From this union, Janet and Jon were blessed with 4 children, daughters Jamie and Julie and sons Marty and Jered. 

John Michael Anthony Proffitt, 58, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Salina Regional Hospital in Salina, Kansas. John was born on September 30, 1964 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of John Proffitt and Beverly Miles.  John’s family moved when he was very young and grew up in Phoenix, Arizona where he spent most of his life.  He worked as a security guard and a park ranger while in Phoenix Arizona.  He moved to Russell in 2019 due to health reasons and to be closer to family who could help take care of him.  He enjoyed

Donald Lee Augustine, 59, of Russell, Kansas passed suddenly Friday, January 13, 2023 in Great Bend, Kansas. Don was born March 1, 1963 in Morris, Illinois.  He was one of four children born to Wayne J. and Clarissa Ann (Leiker) Augustine.  The family moved to Hays, Kansas when Don was young.  He grew up in Hays and was a 1981 graduate of Hays High School.  He did attend Barton County Community College and Ft. Hays State University. Don was united in marriage to Kimberly Jo Boxberger on November 21, 1987 in Russell.  This union was blessed with a son, Nick. 

David Arthur George, 80, of Natoma, Kansas died on Sunday, January 08, 2023, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas.
