K Ronald Somers, 87, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the Russell Regional Hospital. K was born September 27, 1933 in Fredonia, Kansas.  He was the son of Rhea Moore and Thelma Doris (Davis) Somers.  His dad was a Teacher so during his childhood the family moved many times.  He graduated from Bloom High School and attended a couple of years at Ft. Opal Louise Bunting, 85, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, December 24, 2020, at the Main Street Manor Care Center in Russell, Kansas. Opal was born on July 26, 1935, in Partridge, Kansas, the daughter of Edmond and Ethel (Nelson) Blew.  She grew up in Sylvia, Kansas, and graduated from Sylvia Rural High School.  After high school she met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Conrad Eugene Bunting on August 28, 1955, in Sylvia, Kansas.  From this union they were blessed with 3 children Cindy, Curtis and Chris.  She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Buckeye

Frances Mae (Laubhan) Wagner, 91, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Homestead Assisted Living in Russell. Frances was born March 14, 1929 in Russell, the daughter of Gottfred and Eva Elizabeth (Ehrlich) Laubhan.  She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the Class of ’47.  During high school, she worked at the Duckwall’s Store in Russell. Frances was united in marriage to Clarence B. Wagner on August 29, 1948 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell.  This union was blessed with two sons; Steve and Brad.  They made their home in

Shirley Jean Miller, 86, of Claflin, Kansas, died on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at her home in Claflin. Shirley was born on August 09, 1934, in Abilene, Kansas, the daughter of Herbert “Boots” and Helen (Sullivan) Shumaker.  She grew up in Russell, Kansas, and graduated from Russell High School.  After high school she attended Marymount College in Salina, Kansas, for 2 years and received an associate’s degree in Home Economics.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Marvin Bryan Miller on October 09, 1954 in Russell, Kansas.  From this union, they were blessed with four children

Darleen Kay Bradford, 82, of Kansas City, Missouri and formerly of Okeechobee, Florida passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020 at her son’s home in Kansas City. Darleen was born in Lyons, Kansas, on April 23, 1938, the daughter of Denzil F. and Jewel E. (Vaughn) Bradford.  She grew up in Kansas and graduated from Lindsborg High School in 1956 and went on to graduate from Asbury School of Nursing. Salina, Kansas in 1959.  She received her first Bachelor’s Degree in Dickinson, North Dakota and subsequent Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Nursing from Ft. Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. 

Lytle Gene Cross, 83, of Bunker Hill, Kansas, died on Sunday, December 20, 2020, at the Wilson Care Center in Wilson, Kansas.  Lytle was born on January 29, 1937, in Lyons, Kansas, the son of Marlin and Esther (Kraus) Cross.  He grew up in rural Russell County, Kansas, and graduated from Russell High School.  He met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Charlotte Burns on May 31, 1958 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell.  From this union they were blessed with a son Lyle.  For much of his adult life, he co-owned and worked at Cross

Richard Keith Howe, 91, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Homestead Assistant Living Facility of Russell. Keith was born on December 22, 1928 to Aaron R. Howe and Ann (Walley) Howe in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. He was an only child. He grew up and attended school in Kingfisher until his family moved to Wichita during his 8th grade summer. Keith graduated from North High School in Wichita, Kansas with the class of 1946. He attended Oklahoma A & M now Oklahoma State where he played baseball. LaJune Joyce Gustin (Michaelis), 87, died on December 17,2020 due to  complications from a recent stroke. LaJune was born on April 07, 1933 in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Huldrich and Sarah (Deines) Michaelis. She grew up and attended school in rural Russell County. After grade school she helped with the family farm and worked at a local jewelry store in Russell, KS. Later in life, while raising a family and working full time, she committed the time and effort to obtain her GED. Marvin Eugene Mader, 81, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. Marvin was born on April 18, 1939, in Grainfield, Kansas, the son of Raymond and Helen (Dreher) Mader.  He grew up in Russell, Kansas, and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1957.  He attended college at Kansas University, Emporia State University, Ft.
