Akemi Barton

Akemi Barton, 70, of Overland Park , died on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center .

Akemi was born on November 6, 1938 in Omuta , Japan , the daughter of Sadakuma and Yasuke Honda. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Darrell Barton on September 26, 1961 in Fukuoka , Japan . From this union Akemi and Darrell were blessed with two children a son Daniel and a daughter Raelene. She was a member of the Methodist Church , V.F.W. #846 Auxiliary, and American Legion Auxiliary #327 both of the Kansas City area. She enjoyed being a homemaker and spending her time caring for her family and friends.

Surviving family include her husband Darrell of the home, son Daniel Barton and wife Gayle of Blue Ridge, GA; daughter Raelene Herndon and husband Bob of Overland Park, KS, and 4 grandchildren. She also has 3 sisters and one brother of Japan .

She was preceded in death by her parents. Her father died serving in Iwo Jima during World War II, and her mother died in 1946 from the after-affects of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima .

A celebration of Akemi’s life will be held at 10 AM on Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery . Visitation will be from 5 PM to 7 PM on Friday, October 23, 2009 at the D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel at 8201 Metcalf Ave. Visitation in Russell will take place the day of the service.
