Phyllis F. Buehler

Phyllis Florence (Cunningham) Buehler , 91 of Russell died Wednesday morning, August 6, 2008 at her home. Phyllis was born April 22, 1917 near Marquette , Kansas , the daughter of Daniel Presley and Icah Elizabeth (Forney) Cunningham. She grew up in Wilson and graduated from Wilson High School in 1936.

Phyllis was a one room school teacher for three years before she was united in marriage to Willis H. “Jiggs” Buehler on November 13, 1938 in Wilson . She was a devoted mother and homemaker.

She was a member of the St. Johns Lutheran Church of Russell and the Quilting Ladies of the church. She also belonged to the Russell Rebecca Lodge and the Russell Hospital Auxiliary.

Her surviving family include two daughters, Jolene Dougherty of Rose Hill, KS. and Darita Mermis of Russell; two sons, Wayne Buehler and wife Ann of Seminole, FL. and Dennis Buehler of Topeka, KS; sister, Geraldine Skalicky of Wilson, KS; 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jiggs on Nov. 18, 1989, 6 brothers, 1 sister and granddaughter, Amy Buehler.

Celebration of Phyllis’ Life will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, August 9, 2008 at St. Johns Lutheran Church of Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Friday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. Memorials have been established with St. Johns Lutheran Church of Russell or Russell County American Cancer-Relay For Life.
