Wayne E. Funk, 78, of Milberger, Kansas, died on Monday, September 05, 2022, at Main Street Manor in Russell, Kansas.
Wayne was born on July 31, 1944, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Emanuel and Elsie (Wilhelm) Funk. He grew up on the family farm in the southwest corner of Russell County and graduated from Otis High School. After high school he joined the Kansas Army National Guard. He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Janet J. Becker on August 07, 1966, at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger, Kansas. From this union Wayne and Janet were blessed with 3 sons Doug, Warren and Deric. Wayne worked as a farmer and cattleman and they made their home on the family farm in rural Russell County, Kansas. Wayne was a member of the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger and served on the church counsel. He was a member of several Russell County boards including the Fair board, Water District #3 Board, Extension Board, Winterset Township Board and was a Republican Precinct Committeeman. He enjoyed drag racing, tractor pulling, bowling and singing. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities and events.
Surviving family include his wife Janet from the home; sons Doug Funk (Teema) of Russell, Kansas, Warren Funk (Erica) of Rexford, Kansas and Deric Funk (Mandy) of Galatia, Kansas; sisters Joetta Hendrickson of Port Angeles, Washington and Marilyn Charles of McPherson, Kansas; 4 grandkids Lakin, Kaitlyn, Camille and Callen Funk; 3 step grandkids Molly, Macy and Chloe and 3 step great grandkids Delilah, Amari and Lovelyn. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 09, 2022, at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger, Kansas. Burial will follow at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Milberger. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, September 08, 2022, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Thursday evening. Family has requested memorials be given to the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
